The Staffies Plight

Staffies are being overbred in the UK, people want to make money and are breeding them to saturation point. Staffies used to sell for prices of up to £300 but now the free ads are full of ads offering ‘Free to a good home’. No one wants them any more and so they end up being taken to the pound.
Pound helpers like myself find it very difficult to place Staffies with good rescues as they are already full with staffies or can only have a certain number for rehoming. Because no-one wants a Staffy they are quite difficult to rehome, there simply aren’t enough homes for them.
Unfortunately, Staffies are now tarnished with the brush of ‘Devil Dog’, a title once held by the Rottweiler; and before that the German Shepherd, and a title that will be given to another breed in the future. They are not devil dogs, every dog can bite and be aggressive – whatever it’s breed. It’s up to it’s owners to bring it up correctly, a puppy is very much like a baby – a blank canvas.
